Daddy-Daughter Teton Adventure
Our first daddy-daughter adventure is in the books! Kaylee was out of town, so rather than sit around and wait for her to come back, Carter and I made a trip out to Grand Teton National Park for the day. Notable stops included String Lake, Schwabacher's Landing, Mormon Row, and Elk Ranch Flats. I made an effort to shake up our destinations this time around as I typically focus on several key areas out of my own interest. This trip, however, my focus was Carter and what she would enjoy!
Carter is definitely Kaylee's daughter, this little girl adored String Lake and its cool shallow water. She admittedly got soaked, but I had planned for such and quickly changed her into warm dry clothes after the sun set behind the peaks. The overcast weather made for remarkable photography opportunities especially at Schwabacher's Landing and String Lake.
This year has been a dry one. The trees at Oxbow bend, especially, are drought-stricken and have lost most of their leaves already. In other areas of the park, the effects of the drought aren't as evident, although Jackson Lake is almost below 20% capacity right now. Pray for snow this year, the West needs it. The strong El Nino climate pattern will be working against us, but fingers crossed we make it through this season okay with water to spare.
My hope is that I can share my love for the mountains with our little girl. Having grown up in flat, dry, and hot Texas, I could only dream of day trips like this. I hope that Carter doesn't take such beauty for granted. The Tetons are seriously one of the most incredible places I have been in the US. There aren't many places that can compete in my mind. Although, I'm sure that can certainly be up for discussion.
