A truly unique location north of the St. Anthony Sand dunes! The Civil Defense caves are a series of underground lava tubes with the longest being over a mile long! The area around the caves is remote with only a dirt road for access. Accessible from May to November, the caves are a popular destination for college kids from Rexburg.
There is a lot of graffiti on the rocks and some trash in the area, so I can't say this is a destination visited for its beauty, but if you are one who enjoys a little amateur spelunking and/or volcanic rocks and features, this place is for you! A favorite activity to do in the caves is glow in the dark hide in seek, as well as games like sardines. You can walk pretty far through the caves, though there is ice on the floor year round, so be careful!
Here are a few pictures of mine, enjoy!!
Love the photo especially with you and all the sheep 🐑🐏😊!
